San Jose S.T.E.A.M
Team Animatronics participated in STEAM day at the San Jose Giants Stadium. Our team demonstrated the fundamentals of robotics teaching them about EV3 Programming and the possibilities it branches out towards. We introduced many of the kids to FIRST Lego League and guided them on how to register for a team if they would like. Many of the kids were interested in how they could program a robot with simple legos and were entranced by how they can affect many robots with basic sensors. We would then create interactive programs for them to play with the many sensors on the robot. Many kids eagerly participated with our booth and we were also able to show our FTC robot briefly explaining its intricacies. With the reach of over a thousand kids many of them were interested in how to participate in STEM and they were interested in different types of robotics programs.

Alameda County FairOn June 30, 2019, our team went to the Alameda County Fair and set up a robotic booth. Around 700 kids visited our booth, and around 500 asked how they could join First and learn robotics. This was an important outreach event as we were not only able to reach many young kids, we were also able to build relations with teams around us. We specifically chose to go in that day because it was the robotics day at the fair. This meant that not only were we there to appeal to kids but so were other teams who we built relations with. We were able to give kids a hands on experience with robotics by taking our Ev3 kits. We also showed them our FTC robot which showed students how advanced they could get if they wanted to pursue robotics.

Ev3 ClassesThroughout Christmas week of 2019 our team held robotics class for free to introduce students from across the Tri-Valley into EV3 and the program held by FIRST FLL. These students ranged from 2nd to 5th graders and they were all very excited to build their own robot while programming it to compete with each other. We limited spots to 12 and held one hour classes everyday except Christmas Day. Our mentors created a curriculum for teams to build their robot and teach them how to do basic programs with it. We then created a competition with the winner getting a prize motivating the kids to put in their best effort, immersing them into robotics even more. The program was a huge success as each kid left knowing how to use the various sensors on an EV3 robot and a few parents were interested in how to start their very own FLL team.

Community CleanUpWith pollution increasing each day team animatronics cleaned their community by picking up any trash they could find. They wanted to spread a message to start recycling more and made it into a local newsletter. They reminded their community to clean up after themselves as it was negatively affecting the local wildlife and causing parks to become dirty. They would also like to remind whoever is reading this to minimize your waste.
